How Long Should You Wear a Migraine Mask?
Share
Wearing a mask too long or too briefly can both undercut its benefit, depending on what you're using it for.
During an active migraine
Many people wear a mask for the duration of the worst symptoms — often 1-4 hours — until light sensitivity eases enough to tolerate normal conditions.
Overnight use
A mask designed for extended wear can be worn through a full night's sleep without discomfort, provided the fit is right.
Short relaxation breaks
Even 15-20 minutes in full darkness can help reset sensory overload during a stressful or overstimulating day, migraine or not.
Signs it's time to remove it
If a mask starts causing its own discomfort — from heat, pressure, or fit — that's usually a sign the mask itself isn't the right design, not that masks in general aren't helping.
